Why the Foundation exists
From Strydkraal to the State Theatre — and back
Lucas Maloma grew up in Strydkraal, Ga Masha, in Sekhukhune, Limpopo. His father passed away in 1984, and as a boy he sang at weddings, churches and schools to help support his unemployed mother.
Music got him to the University of Limpopo — and when outstanding fees threatened to stop him in his final year, a couple who had heard him sing quietly settled the debt. He graduated with his B.Com in 2005. That single act of kindness is the seed of everything the Foundation does.

Today Lucas is one of South Africa's most-loved Sepedi gospel voices, with live albums recorded at the State Theatre and Atterbury Theatre and millions of streams. He founded The Maloma Foundation in 2026 so that the reach of the music could become reach into real lives — starting with the community that raised him.
